Educational Trips and Visits Planner

PLANNER 2025 - 2026

At Shephalbury Park Primary, the progression of our LEARNERS goes to the academic and beyond. The attributes of a Shephalbury LEARNER helps to prepare for a future that is not yet known. For jobs that have not yet been invented.

It is important that our LEARNERS experience progression beyond the national curriculum. As such, we have a planned progression of visits, trips and outside learning opportunities.

Learning beyond school is crucial because

it moves education from abstract knowledge to real-world application, developing vital life skills, boosting engagement and wellbeing, fostering creativity, and building resilience through hands-on experiences, making learning more relevant, memorable, and successful for life after formal education. It connects classroom concepts to reality, improving attainment and preparing individuals for an ever-changing world by nurturing problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability.

Key Benefits of Learning Beyond School:

  • REAL WORLD RELEVANCEConnects theoretical subjects like science, history, and math to tangible experiences, showing why learning matters.
  • DEEPER UNDERSTANDING: Helps grasp complex concepts by applying them in different contexts, leading to more memorable learning.
  • ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS: Cultivates communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, risk management, and decision-making.
  • IMPROVED ENGAGEMENT AND MOTIVATION: New environments and activities spark enthusiasm, leading to better focus, attendance, and a more positive attitude towards learning.
  • ENHANCED WELLBEING: Reduces stress, boosts confidence, improves emotional regulation, and fosters social skills through new challenges and experiences.
  • NURTURES CREATIVITY: Unstructured time and new surroundings encourage imaginative thinking and exploration.
  • PERSONAL GROWTH: Helps discover hidden talents, build resilience, and develop a sense of responsibility and capability.

How it Works:

  • HANDS-ON EXPERIENCES: Moving beyond books to do, explore, and experiment.
  • DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS: Utilizing nature, museums, community spaces, or even just a park as dynamic classrooms.
  • NEW RELATIONSHIPS: Seeing teachers and peers in different lights and building stronger bonds.

In essence, learning beyond school transforms education from a passive reception of facts into an active, holistic process that prepares individuals for success in their personal, academic, and professional lives.

Some trips are free, and some are contributed to by families.

Pupils in receipt of the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) are provided with financial assistance.

Further financial support is available confidentially, and families should speak to Mrs Finch or Mrs McKenzie privately should this be sought.
