Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome back for the Spring Term!
South America is our creative curriculum topic for this term. We’ll be learning about the geography and finding out about the lives of people who live there. Our guided reading text for this term is ‘Journey to the River Sea’ by Eva Ibbotson which follows the adventures of Maia, an orphan sent to live with distant relatives near Manaus in Brazil. We will also be considering issues affecting the Amazon rainforest and writing persuasively to express our views on these.
In maths, we’re learning how to solve problems with algebra, angles and shapes whilst recapping last term’s work on fractions, decimals and percentages. Remember to practise your times tables on Times Table Rockstars regularly as these form the basis of much of our mathematics learning.
P.E. continues to be on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning, with swimming.
Spellings are given out on a Monday and tested on a Friday. Reading should be completed at home three times a week and be signed by an adult.
We look forward to lots of learning this term!
