Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Welcome to Year 5!

We hope you have had a lovely Christmas and New Year celebration and are all ready and raring to go for 2019. It is going to be another wonderful term as the light begins to return along with our learning from last term!

We are delighted to have Mrs McKenzie back in class alongside myself and we are both very much looking forward to the term.

As ever, we ask that you are reading at least three times a week and recording this in reading records, practicing times tables in our fabulous app Times Table Rock Stars and that you learn your spellings each week. Our PE sessions will be on Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday mornings. The Thursday session will be swimming for those who have been notified. The rest of Year 5 will join those in Year 6 who are not swimming for PE with me! Please make sure a PE kit is in school for both Wednesday and Thursday as a backup for any unforeseen circumstances!

As ever, I am available if you require a discussion about your child’s learning. Please book a time with me at the start or end of the day. However, we will have a Parent’s evening coming up very soon!

We shall continue our learning of English with narrative, poetry and Non - Chronological reports. We will also move onto our second set of Power Maths books as we continue our journey to Maths Mastery. Our topic for the term will be South America where we will be focusing on geography and design technology. Needless to say, we are VERY excited for the culmination of this topic - but I can't tell you why just yet as it will spoil the surprise!

Of course we will also be looking at RE where we begin to look at children's own ideas of life after death and celebrations of key figures. Science and Computing will also be taught as well this term with a focus on materials and forces and more crash courses in our Purple Mash computing topics.

We look forward to seeing you back, we have missed you!
